After the initial meeting, the second phase in our home interior and exterior remodeling process is the estimate. Blue Ribbon™ Residential Construction offers free estimates — they typically serve as a feasibility tool for the Raleigh, NC homeowner to use as a benchmark for the project budget.
We will schedule time for you to visit our showroom for this meeting. Please allow at least one and a half hours for this meeting — we also request that all parties involved in your project attend.
Pricing Options for Your Renovation
We offer two types of pricing options for Raleigh-area homeowners:
- Fixed-Price Agreement – With this type of agreement, there is a set price for the work as outlined in the specifications and plans. This set price method is the best way to avoid changes and additional work orders. It will only be adjusted based on customer alterations and discovery of unforeseen site conditions, such as bad ground in the area of construction, termites or deficiencies in the existing structure. Payments are linked to phases of work.
- Cost-Plus Agreement – For projects handled by Blue Ribbon Residential Construction that fall under a cost-plus agreement, we have a very sophisticated method of tracking expenses on your project. All costs are tracked and only time and materials dedicated to your project are billed. Production efficiency is based on a normal crew working a normal day. All costs are tracked and compared to the target budget. With a cost-plus agreement, Blue Ribbon invoices the client weekly based on job flow, current bills and time cards. All costs for the period are tallied, and the General Contractor adds a specified percentage to cover the company’s overhead and profit.
While we generally prefer the fixed price agreement, cost-plus might be necessary on certain types of more complex work.

Keep in mind that in most cases, the renovation’s final cost ends up within a plus or minus 20% range of the original estimate. The reason it varies is due to the many unknowns that exists when you get inside a house.
Attached to the estimate is a list of references with names and phone numbers of homeowners in your area who have previously contracted us to work on their homes.
