Prepare Your Raleigh-area Home for a Remodel & Renovation

Having renovation and remodeling work done to your Raleigh, NC home can be stressful, but don’t worry — Blue Ribbon™ Residential Construction has helped our area clients plan for interior remodeling projects for over 25 years.

Getting Ready for Your Home Improvement Job

After the design plans are accepted, we meet with you for the pre-construction meeting. Blue Ribbon Residential Construction and the homeowner will review all documentation together again and decide upon a forecasted start date. Other topics covered at this meeting, if necessary, include:

  • Home AdditionPreparing your house
  • Setting up a temporary kitchen
  • Location of a portable toilet
  • Location of the material staging area
  • Debris control
  • Dust control
  • Home security
  • Project safety
  • Payment schedules
  • and more

Additional Renovation Recommendations & Considerations

Our Raleigh-based construction team recommends discussing the project with your family extensively. Renovations can be tough to deal with, particularly for kids, and especially if the area being remodeled is a kitchen, bath or master suite. We work hard to make sure the mess and noise level is contained for you, your family and your neighbors.

Dealing with Dust

Remodeled Bathroom

We make extensive use of drop cloths, plastic room dividers and vacuums – but remember that dust is hard to manage. We will provide special plastic carpet covers where construction traffic is likely. If there is to be a kitchen remodel, we will help you set up a temporary work area.

There are other precautions that both the contractor and the homeowner must take to ensure a project that minimizes frustration. Blue Ribbon will provide you with an instruction sheet when the time comes. These instructions include details about the removal of items of value, paintings, wall decorations, rugs, drapes and furniture from the project area.

Outdoor Landscaping Considerations: Grass, Shrubs, etc.

Depending upon the scope of the job, your yard and landscaping may be unavoidably damaged. Blue Ribbon Residential Construction will regrade, seed and straw damaged grassy areas. Unless specified in the contract, shrubbery will not be replaced. If shrubs are designated to be saved, we will make every effort to tie them up to allow room to work in that area.
