Certified Aging in Place Specialists (C.A.P.S.)

Planning for Enjoying Your Own Home for the Rest of Your Life

Blue Ribbon Residential Construction has received CAPS certification from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). We are fully qualified to help you or your parents stay in a current home, with remodeling that does not have that “institutional” appearance.

Adults often develop vision problems that can be resolved simply with improvements such as brighter lighting, high-visibility countertop edges, and staircase lighting or accented stair treads. We will discuss your need for ramps, grab bars, hand railings, wider door openings, non-slip flooring, security peepholes and lever handles for doors.

Safer Bathrooms and Kitchens

Bathrooms that pose hazards from slipping and falling because of wet floors and accessibility issues can be remodeled to a safer standard. Kitchens can be remodeled with ease of use, sanitation and improved lighting in mind. Ranges with stove controls at the back may be dangerous for an older person with limited mobility who must reach over a hot cooktop to turn off a burner. Your safety is our first concern in analyzing home modifications for aging-in-place.

Before remodeling a home, Blue Ribbon may consult with other professionals such as occupational therapists who are trained to deal with the personal concerns of individuals with special needs. As a CAPS remodeler, we are fully qualified to handle home modifications on a need basis, from ramps for wheelchairs and motorized scooters to multiple features for making everyday activities easier for the aging population.
